About the House

Community Homeless Outreach and Support, Inc., operating under the name Brooks House, is a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is entirely funded by businesses, churches, individuals, and state grants. We are a transitional (non-emergency) shelter serving  women and women with children.



Population served

Brooks House provides temporary housing for single women as well as women with children in the Wilson County community.  We house children from infancy to 18 years, with the exception of boys who must be 13 years or younger.


Brooks House has the capacity for up to 28 women and children to receive temporary shelter. The house consists of:

  • five family bedrooms, which can accommodate a mother and up to three children
  • four single rooms, which can accommodate two women without children
  • one Residential Manager’s single room
  • shared bathroom and shower facilities
  • fully functioning kitchen (which includes meals)
  • dining room
  • laundry room with washers and dryers
  • children’s playroom
  • family room with ample seating and a TV
  • Executive Director and Assistant Director office spaces
  • fenced-in backyard
  • two covered patios
  • children’s playground
  • picnic tables
  • gas grill
  • raised garden beds
  • storage area for children’s bikes
